Text Box: Pavement Management
Text Box: Project Summary: The project is to develop a comprehensive asset inventory management system for the Virginia DOT. Prime Contractor, Parsons-Brinckerhoff, developed a multidiscipline team to carry out the numerous objectives incorporated into this work. QES is the pavement consultant for this effort, dealing primarily with the collection of pavement performance data for all 58,000 miles of state highways. Within this broad description, QES plays a number of roles, including those as technical consultant for systems evaluation and development of a rigorous quality control/quality assurance program and technician training. During actual production work, QES provides quality assurance review of all data collection systems as well as data collected. System development and data analysis is also provided for 45,000 miles of secondary roads.
QES has had intricate involvement with numerous automated data collection systems, including those for collecting data for the development of centerline mapping, roughness data, rutting, faulting and distress. QES served as a consultant for design of the integration of a multidiscipline data collection system incorporating three independent systems into a single data collection unit.
QES developed a unique quality control/quality assurance in cooperation with VDOT to meet stringent data quality requirements. Data samples are extracted from the large project database and results documented in the QA system format.
Rating for secondary routes in Virginia is provided by QES and mapping is reported by linking the project database with centerline mapping developed by an independent part of the ICAS team.
