Text Box: Project Summary: To reduce the surface deterioration caused by studded tires, QES developed, implemented and completed a research plan to evaluate the economic feasibility of transporting high quality aggregate for use in HMA surfacing. Work to accomplish this evaluation included compiling existing highway pavement performance and surface material quality, analyzing material and wear data to create performance and life cycle costs. A comprehensive economic analysis of the benefit-to-cost of transporting aggregate materials to various areas within Alaska was delivered.
